mood: sore
Things have been LOOOOOOOngg this long weekend. I've been in super slow mo since Friday. Santos and Santos was a good show which got to see from the audience. A lot of very creative directing, passionate acting and a great space. A very lengthy show though with the intermission only 1/3 of the way through the heated epic drama of trial lawyers, racism, the american dream and a nice does of drug trafficing, white trash and hit men. Anytime you set a person on fire in a play its a good thing. A photo shoot afterwards (already 11pm) prevented me from sticking around and having a drink with cast memeber Randall, but I'll catch up with him next week before he moves to New York to become a star. There seems to be a lot of that going around lately.
Saturday I started the daunting task of moving yet again. For those of yo just joining, yes, I went from 2 years at Manila Drive, to Royal Court inJanuary for 2 months until pregnancy and unemployment on the part of the landlords encouged a swift move to the lifestyles of the rich and famous mansion which was promptly put on the market due to job transfers of the owners two weeks after I moved in. This will be my 3rd and final move this year if I have any say in it. I chose carefully. Went with my gut, and I am beginning to think I may be a jinx. In search of good mojo, please send my way. More on the present household saga in a bit... I took a break o have Alejandro's (that's my dad) famous enchiladas while my brother and his adorble girlfriend visiting. Much laughing and eating, as it should be. Still no nephew news from London, but soon...leading names are now either Francisco, or Wesley. Then back for an allnighter to pack, which turned into gooberingon the computer a bit, setting my alarm for 6:30am and going to be at 1am. JUST like college. And JUST like college I was ready to go all packed at 8pm as schedled, and the movers didn't show up unti 9:45. Always meet the deadline, never really need to. =]
Each time now I have moved I have given away at least 2 bags of stuff I just don't want to move, and still I find myself just thinking, hmm have I used or worn this since my last move...no...out you go! Though this time I had professional movers who got everything loaded in and loaded out in just over 2 hours, I ran out of boxes and so will have another trip to make once there is room in my car of just some kitchen stuff and lose ends,,,and the stuff going to good will/dump. I am amazed that the last time my parents and I alone got everything up stairs and in. My new house is on such an incline though that there would have been NO way I would have been able to manage alone. Even inmy jeep the short drivewa is at such an incline I nearly have to go into low gear. It's fun though. And the jeep enjoys it.
My shoulders are sore ( in a very bad old swim injury kind of way that hasn't haunted me for at least 22 years now) from packing and lifting the little that I did, and my lower back is aching from unpacking yesterday, hanging up clothes and putting all the knick knacks about. No dilly dallying this time, I unpacked EVERYTHING I had brought oper before heading over to watch Orgazmo (Trey Parker of South Parks cult classic) in Campbell. (3 out of 5 rockwells, clever concept, but not enough music). Sleep in my new room was good. It's got good karma, is quite, not drafty and though I have no closet doors yet, the monsters are either friendly or nonexistant. My BIG window is essentially my Enter West facing wall. It's a window seat, but I of course filled the area with trinkets and treasures, my stereo, pictures and such. My view is now of blank patio and rustic hill, but as part of my rent negotiation I will be gardener and so I imagine the side of the hill which I look from the base of will be more decorative and colorful in the months to come.
The new house is not with out its issues of course, but the views from all over the property are fantastic and the mover Emmet who huffed and puffed up the hill and then took a cigarette break as the sweat dripped down and the complaints flowed freely, saw a deer. The birds are the loudest things around (some calls I have NEVER heard before) and sunset is something amazing here, I'm in east foothills just a little bit elevated and fom the back yard and all over the house (lots of windows) I can see the entire valley. This I like. Haven't seen much of my roommates, but Andrew did assist me in taking apart and reassemlbing my futon frame as it was too large to make it down the hall. He's handy that way and watching the 34 year old .com brat made me think of a kid with an erector set. Very focused, just hopped right in there and showed me what to do. Entrapenuer to the bone.
So on to the inevitable scandal.. only short version becuase I am starving and still in bed, and until I clear off a shelf in the fridge for me, I risk any food I bring into the house being consumed admittedly by Andrew. Cut from the same cloth in a way. Diane, upstairs kind of separate space of the house has lived here 5 years. Chris the other roommate (has been here 3 months). they both have dogs. Their dogs get along. They are both particular about their animals. Diane is a bit more so. While her family was visiting Chris agreed to keep his dog at Andrew's moms. To appease her. But now apparently there are some questions as to if either party will be staying or leaving or dealing as diane is not seemingly keen on having Cuan ( Chris's dog) about. I'm not sure WHAT the deal is. dogs are dogs. They work it out. I am a big fan of having dogs inthe house and though I haven't met Tasha ( Dian'es husky) Ihave met Cuan and he is very sweet. A beautiful long haired German Shepherd. just 3 years old. Anyway....The tummy growls, and the sun shines and these things are what keep me happy and healthy depsite the drama =] Jeep and I are on our way to grab some food, pack some boxes and enjoy California.

Anarchy and Chess
music: Bree Sharp
mood: Superstar!
Saw a great piece of theatre last night. Chess, my abosolute favorite musical, at the Montgomery Theatre in San Jose. It's the perfect sized stage if you ask me. Big enough to do some great technical bits, but intimate enough at 523 that you get a crowd without feeling overwhelmed.
This production itself was not without some flaws. Huge annoying sound difficulties with mics, which always happen, particularly in that theatre and totally inexcusable for a company with as much money as CMTSJ has, but they mostly fixed them up by the second act. Also annoying was the fact that out of a wine bottle on stage into clear glasses came... water. No attempt was even made to make it look like wine. REALLY lame, when you are trying to tell a story that is real. Totally breaks the wall. Even for a musical when actors break out into songs and ballet dancers are doing interpretive dances which aren't exactly the most realistic ways to keep the fourth wall up, but the water still was a bad move. It's the details.
The digital slides they used to represent locations and scene changes could have been SO much better, but not a major distraction for the most part. The costumes and choreography were great and most of the voices solid. The blocking is tricky and difficult, multiple scene changes and the media, live camera technique was an excellent and essential component. Could have been smoother in places, could have certainly used the money and space better in parts, lighting cues were occasionally late, but with all the bits and pieces available for improvement the show its self is superb and hard to ruin. Hard to do, but hard to ruin if you know what I mean
The stand out for me was Adam Campell, who sang the part of the cocky American chess champ Trumper. Oh my god. He was flawless. His character, his look, his voice, just a flawless performance. He reminded me of most of the candidates on the apprentice only he was singing his attitude ( You know they are making a musical of that don't you?). Now, I know this show, I know every note, almost every lyric, every beat to this musical and love it. And I know theatre. I've see countless hows and concerts, Broadway performances even, AND I am a critical person in nature, but I was FLOORED by this mans stage presence. He hit EVERY note effortlessly and with passion and attitude. Not a waiver, or flub, perfect diction....totally amazing. I was pretty smitten admittedly. He was acting without acting, and singing without thinking, yes just nailing all the emotion. Wow. Makes me wish I could do that. Makes me want to just sing and be on stage. I may head to the Alamaden Lounge tonight to make a fool of myself, remind myself why we let people like him sing on stage and not people like me.
There were some set issues, and a few moments of overkill on the cheese in the production as a hold, but Adam more than made up for it. Other than RENT on Broadway with the entire original Tony award winning cast, I don't think I have even seen a show deserving of a standing ovation, nor have I ever given one. Though the crowd was up on their feet a bit before I was, I had no intention of staying in my seat when Adam came out on stage. I was glad I didn't audition because even if I HAD gotten in, I disagreed with some of the choices enough to know it would have made me itchy being onstage. But to be in reahearsal with that for three weeks. Yuh-ME. It's times like these I wish I were an exccentric millionare and I could just give the man a check to hire him to come sing to me at work. And yes, if I were a millioniare I woud still work for Artsopolis. I can honestly say I wasn't disappointed as I had thought I could have been with the production. It only runs this weekend, which actually, I think is good, they will have packed crowds every night, and not wear out their voices. I look forward to seeing Adam in more productions in the area.
The topic of Chess is not as outdated as we might think. Subplots of defection, cold war, freedom, and various government agencies using civilians as pawns though specific in this show, are pertinent to be sure today with very little munipulation. I chanced upon a bit of a article in the news today about a "revolutionary street party" in Palo Alto that cause the police to block off the streets as "more than 100 unruly" that’s right 100 , not 1000 or 10,000.. basically congregated without a clue what they were "protesting". Apparently fliers had been passed out and people came from San Francisco to reclaim the streets. THIS organization was apparently the instigating force. It always amuses me when Anarchists are so organized they have meetings and print fliers for their anarchy. They have a website, a mission as it were and yet their mission doesn't do anything but complain. To a certain extent I agree with some of their statements, but how is trashing someones car gonna help? How is breaking a window of a bank really going to change the world. How is violence and mayhem going to bring the government down, how does it do anything but make the gap wider. I don’t have a solid answer mind you, (not that I am going to publicize) but just find it amusing.
Extremes can be so misleading sometimes. I think maybe spontaneous acts of art would be more helpful. What if some actors stood on a corner of a busy street and mocked the government and capitalism through humor. What if Graffitti instead of being someones name selfishly tainting property were poetry instead. Tagging for literacy. What if sidewalks were chalked in colors questioning authority? What if instead of people vandalizim “ugly” public art, why not add your own. The answer is probably it is cheaper to destroy than it is to create, but I’ll donate chalk pen and paper if anyone wants to speak their mind in a more productive way….How different the news MIGHT have been if 100 artists with Chalk and guitars had lines University avenue singing and drawing instead of standing around waiting for someone to start a riot. Lack of commitment one way of the other. What did standing around and getting the police have to do with reclaiming the street? What indeed.

Sith, Smith and a Brewhouse
music: None
mood: Confused
No Spoilers in this blog here, but Suffice to Say the New Star Wars movie was made much better with the opening night crowds. Yoda is the man or whatever he is) and though very high cheese factor for many of the long looks and dialogue, it had a great sense of humor about its self and certainly was in the spirit of previous films.
The timing worked out well and the movie was an event. Chris and I arrived at the movie theatre about 8pm and the line outside for the 6 showings from 12:01 am to 12:40am was already pretty impressive. WE went straight to Bj's Brewhouse and had a great dinner with some EXCELLENT beer, that was nicely priced. About 9 or so we finished up and met up with Chuck and Jean who were in the line right about where we left it, they had been there since just after we went in to eat. Perfect. Within 10 minutes or so the line started to move. They escorted groups of a bout 20 or so in to the inside, upstairs and then separated them into LOTS of lines. It was impossible to tell which line was which but we chatted with folks in line, played a travel version of Othello (reversi) and the waiting went actaully really fast. Line after line, shift after shift we finally are allowed into the theatre and we grab some seats. Great seats actually. A BIT close to the screen for me but considering we were like 300th to get in, all good. There was a Yoda and Darth vader light saber fight and LOTS of nerds. EXcited Nerds. you might even say riled!
Once the lights faded and the first green preview disclaimer came on everyone BOOOOOOOOOED. BUT then it was a Lion Witch and the Wardrobe Preview and after that, the crowd applauded. THEN the next preview screen. MASS booooooooing...THEN an AMAZING shot of angaline jolie in a skin tight black vinyl suit that EVERY girl wished they had an opportunity to wear and every guy wished they could get a girl OUT of an outfit like that. The theatre was litterally dead silent. Awesome. Brat Pitt has never done much for me, but watch the trailer and check out that woman in those CLOTHES!. 1000 nerds had a simultaneous orgasm. Thunderous applause. NEXT green screen...BOOOOOOOOO. A poor review for Shark boy and Lava girl surpsingly got MIXED yeahs and booooos and the possbily the BEST MOMENT of the movie experience...
The THX "sound". Everyone actually shushed each other so that it was SILENT before the ramp up to the tradmark sound. Even Angalina Jolie in hot clothing doesn't quite match the appreciation for this aural sensation. Music to a Nerds ear (and wanna be nerds). History in the making. AND APPLAUSE!!!!...and then the anticipation for the opening notes of the theme song and the scrolling story recap. Everyone was smiling and I had no problem staying awake.
The word apprentice used in the film many times took on a different meaning for me, I could see Donald Trump as the Sith Lord in an alternate universe. Mace Windu, (Samuel L Jackson) can not be taken seriously with the "mother fuckers" absent from his text. He's just not a zen guy...but we love him anyway.
There are a fwe times in my life where I have felt the hugeness of the Earth and the smallnest of my significance and prescense in it. Alone at the helm of a boat in the Mediterrian Sea, no land or other boats in site, and all other crew members asleep. Me and a compass. That's small. In the Amazon Rainforest in Peru, at night, in a hammock under the canapy with the foreign sounds of the animals and river. I could be the only one on the planet. At a Star Wars Premiere, you are reassured there are thoughsands of people in your own TOWN who are crazy and fun and appreciate fantasy. This is encouraging too in a way. We are not alone. I keep reminding myself. Don't give up.

Honesty, Body Devils and Format Free Radio
music: French Cafe
mood: Need of encouragement
In searching for houses to live in, I have met a lot of people. Good and not so. When meeting up with home owners and tennants I find as I may have mentioned before, that the meetings often feel somewhere between a job interview and a first date. And in a sense roommates have both a business and a personal relationship with each other to be sure. They potentially hear and see all the "dirty laundry" (over heard phone calls, bad returns froma party or pub, etc) and yet have to "manage" each other through the "business" such as house chores, rent payment and other areas of mutual respect. Manageing and being managed is key I guess in any level of a relationship.
A roommate MAY in some instances be called on to cheer another "team mate" up or to distract them with a movie and so on and so forth. They may be called on to question choices that effect the house hold. So in meeting a total stranger you must carefully balance the honesty card with the too much information card. One wishes to be true to oneself, to project a fair and responsible image of what they are like but without crossing the line. Without appearing desparate for stability as introducing another personality into the mix is NEVER as easy as you might want it to be and like some chemisty experiment to introduce instability into an already unstable environment usually results in explosion and not the good kind.
And yet, my philosophy as of yet has been, what have you got to lose. If you cross the line ususally (and I walk clumsily on the line itself, admittedly losing balance more often than not) they ought to get used to it right? None of this surprise upgrade stuff which changes the interface and leaves you confused and searching endlessly for the basics (YAHOO!!). It's what I would want and so its what I deliver, scary as it may be, but ultimately my honesty is contagious I hope and I get back the same openess I advertise and can make a much more educated "judgement" than I would otherwise playing the safe, conservative me.
Being true to yourself may end up cutting your nose off to spite your face, but my biggest BIGGEST pet peave in all of life is people who are not honest to themselves and others. You could even say I despise it. I would rather be friends with someone who's life choices I strongly disagree with but who is honest about why they make those choices then to constantly have to weed through the excuses or justifications of people who hide motives, dodge questions, are hypocritical, two faces and are essentially dishonest and dillusional. The depth of personal conversatoin offered up and contirbuted in my last house hunting endeavour proved...profitable. Details still to be worked out, which for me is like just waiting for the next shoe to drop, Psych, but an offer to co-habitat has been offered and accepted and so I hope to be that once paragon of stability I am so loved for. At least for the summer. I joke becuase truely, there is no other way. The lesson of change and flexibility has been tried and tested and we all know I am QUITE done with it. The dominos best be ready to line up, I got a LOT to do and not much time to do it in given my present track record. And so here's a thought to put in your pipe and smoke.
I need a body devil. Not a double persae, but a body devil. As I will no doubt be focusing on moving, finishing at least 1 if not 2 plays, getting directing jobs, preparing auditions, play writing committees, and other time consuming project required for financial stability, my personal life will no doubt suffer. I need a body devil to be able to go out and make mistakes, take unneccessary risks and essentially have fun without consequences for me while I, logical, determined and restricted do the other stuff. A body Devil, could do any number of things I never would. Ram retarded drivers of the road, have unprotected sex with strangers, tell people to go screw themselves. This body devil would of course be immortal and imune to consequences and puinishment ( I haven't quite worked out how, but I'll get my body angel maybe on that right away) and of course I could live directly vicariously thought them whenever I so chose. Down load the experience if you will. I bit of a life rewind button, a stunt double and Strange Days. Not VIRTUAL reality, but parallel reality. A purpsoful split in time....to do the WRONG thing, but not have to worry about it. Then of course if someone elses body devil was the target of malace from my body devil that could be interesting....to ponder on...
Flipping through the radio stations the other day I chanced to come across a Styx song on what I thought was a country station. Indeed, over night, as so many stations seem to be fated, the format changed. The format though of this format is NO format, which seems to be a growing trend in California. They are FINALLY catching on that we don't actaully WANT to hear the same 30 songs over and over again for 6 months or longer. And with hundreds of years of music to chose from you could start now, and never repeat for your entire life if you wanted to. So this stations catch phrase for the moment ( as they have no DJ's) is "70's, 80's,... Whatever". So far I have sampled on the station some Journey, Styx, Paul Simon, Greenday, Nirvana, A bunch of people I don't know, Zepplin, UB40 and Madonna. Odd. Not nearly as good so far as Perth's radio station, but they are catching on.
Saw Blind Horizon with Val Kilmer. 2 1/2 out of 5 Rockwells. Very predictable, but interesting I suppose. Memory and the Brain are very fascinating to me. Fitting too as my GREAT granfather was a Psychatrist who opend Greenwood Sanitarium and grandfather was a neurosurgeon.
Big weekend of outings this week...Revenge of the sith 12:01am showing Wed, Apprentice Finale Thursday, Chess opening (from the audience thank you, 3rd row!) on Friday and a secret outing on Saturday followed by a directing interview on Sunday. May not get a chance to write before then...disclosure of all fun and so on when I get a chance.....big breaths people....big breaths.

Housing Hopes, Sunny Days and Found Fingers
music: Danny's Muiscl Recaps of the Apprentice Episodes
mood: antsy
Its sunny and though I am fortune to have a window, I feel the day going by too slowly for my taste. If my car weren't full of boxes, the top would be down and I woud tooling my way down to the nearest patio restaurant for a margarita and a suntan/burn. It's Friday though and for the first time in a long time, that means something. Not HUGE amounts to do this weekend other than catch up with some friends I haven't see in a while and hopefully enjoy the weather. After hailing only a few days aog, I am more than happy to see taht 77+ is on the schedule for the weekend.
You will be thrilled to know the long lost search for the mysterious finger in the Chili at Wendy's mystery is in fact...solved. HERE are all the sorted details. I MIGHT be able to sleep at night now, I STILL think they should have filmed that whole investigation and aired it. It's times like this I curse that I am not independently wealthy and have to work for a living, otherwise fun with that whole thing would have been had.
The housing hunt continues and will hopefully turn in my favor by the end of the weekend. I found a great play, slightly out of my budget but never underestimate the power of a Redhead. Assuming the 2 1/2 hour conversation went as well as I thought it did there may be room for negotiation. My Red Dwarf bag was a conversation starter as one of the tennants is from Ireland and a fan. The conversation was no holds barred and touced upon STD's, Abortion, Gun laws, Education, the shaving of body hair, progress and Scientific America. It felt like a cross between a job interview and a first date...with tow guys but I was generally impressed with the ease at which we were quite open. Doesn't hurt that the whole is like a wacky carnival of twists, turns, cubbys and secret passage ways. Nothing is shaped normally in the house the tub looks like this without the jets and the ceilings are slanted in some places and not in others. Very creative, though I'm not sure it would classify as fung shui. The view is fantastic and there's a german shepard to boot...I don't mean to kick...just as an added bonus, you know. So we will see. The fingers are crossed. More about the dream house when it becomes my home too.
Small get togther on Saturday, Small BBQ on Sunday (For which I bought a BEAUTIFUL fillet mignon, and have my doubts it will last until then), and good weather to look forward to this weekend...no house hunting...just house waiting...More indepth philosophical quandry on Monday...Robot Chicken break at work now...
Have a good one....

Nice Pants!
music: Esacpeology- Robbie Williams
mood: cold
The office is cold, and I hate that. I have a blanket wrapped around me and my hands are still numb. I look more retarded than usual with a scarf on and a jacket in the office, but at least I got a compliment in the parking lot this morning. As I was walking to the building a well dressed man (think Samuel L. Jackson at a business event, sunglasses and beret) a good 50 feet away going the opposite direction said and I quote " I love the color of our pants." Which is funny, cause I'm wearing hot pink pants, and he didn't say he liked the pants, just the COLOR of them. I haven't done laundry in ages, I'm running out of clean items I can coordinate with and my pink sweater happened to pass the smell test, (hurray) so hot pink pants it was. I "won" these pants at a clothes swapping event which I didn't actually even attend 2 years ago. A bunch of people get together with clothes they are going to take to goodwill and basically its a free for all. If you see something you like and it fits it's yours. I was the designated good will dropper offer for anything left over. And I thought, I might need hot pink pants one day. And apparently they have come in handy. or Panty. You know what I mean. When I replied to the man with a smile, THANK you! he deliverd the most sincere, thank YOU, back. I'm glad my pant color could make his day. I suppose sometimes it can be that easy.
No word on Housing...I chose a place, but they haven't chosen me yet...waiting game...and covering my ass by continuing to look as well just in case He who shall not be named is sucking all my "good" karma and ruing my chances.=]
Seeing 42nd street tonight, will probably party afterwards with cast, and will spend all Saturday setting up the RTE casino and partying there as well. I am on Poker (I hardly know her) chip and drink ticket sales. Better get in flirt mode, and make RTE some cash. I watched Broiler room with Vin Diesel the other night and I'm ready for the hard sell, always closing...it's for a good cause...I'll break out the red heels for the event maybe and brush my hair. I MIGHT even shower tee hee.
Computer is being whisked away for the weekend at 4pm today for evasive deinstalling and reinstalling., so I'll grab an early pre show drink at the Britania Arms, see if anyone like the color of my pants enough to buy them a drink....not....and grab me a reuben or something filling to last me the whole show. I declare this weekend to be full of fun, and no stress. Becuase I can. Therefore my minions, go forth and make merry...I'll do my best....
Cheers!

Plates, Hitchhiking and Final Bows
music: None
mood: Focused...well...within reason
Busy Sleepless weekend with Late night movies, Cast parties and general insomnia. No computer acces for most of the weekend which produces an unsettling paranoid feeling of being out of touch. Even with cars and phones, I stilll feel like I might be missing something with out the old internet. What DID people do before computers. DOn't answer that. Paranoia only made worse by having no mailing address yet to call my own. Winner of the week goes out to Chris who still collects my mail and saves it on a shelf for me. It may not seem like a lot, but its symbolic, and we know how much I like symbolism in life.
Took our final bows for Rainmaker to a standing ovation of a VERY enthusiastic packed house on Sunday. They laughed and cried through the whole thing and had genuine happy things to say. For the run I had 1 proposal, and 4, "you are NOT plains" from audience memebers. Also, had sevearl people come back for a second time, and say it got even better. WE captured it on DVD for anyone who wants to catcha copy. Thank you for all that made it, it was a surprising number of you that attended and I appreciate it. i know how hard it is to get to everyone's shows. Collected our checks, said out good byes and made plans to get together in a couple of weeks. My resume for directing was submitted and with any luck I will get to work on the other side of Northside THeatre company this coming winter.
Saw Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy opening night and then again on Sunday. There were tears and cheers for Douglas Adams's name and the theme song. It was really poingant, this culmination and modern revery for this great mind, now lost in a way to the universe. He actually wrote part of this screenplay and I think everyone there on opening night was there for him. I was very pleased. Except for the fact that Zaphod reminded me WAY TOO MUCH of Chris's alter ego, and Arthur Dent reminded me SO MUCH of my friend Martin, and Trillian was a bit disappointing, they captured the spirit, humor and randomness of the series. The next BBC4 radio series begins this week and so I'll have to find time to listen to that at some point. I have now changed my movie raind system to Rockwells. SAm Rockwell was fascinating and brilliant as Zaphod. LOVED him. he was Far Out. So this movie gets 5 out of 5 Rockwells. Sorry Rutger.
Off the plate is rainmaker or course, Brides maid dress for Laurina's wedding in August (ordered and paid for) and just one more week until the fundraiser for RTE and Belle of AMherst at the pear theatre closes and I will have a week before ticketsales and House manager coordination begins on their next show. STILL on the plate is housing, and I won't go into that becuase it depresses me and today is a tiara day and we can't have depression when I have my sparklies on. IT wouldn't be right. So I still search and hope and look to see what materializes.
Missing in Action, my student loan payment cupon book..due tomorrow, grrr, my parking and after hours work access card, and my appretite...( just kidding on the last one, got you!!! It's chicken nacho day!)
Back to work....LOTS to do, and time I hope today to do it! Enjoy the sun!!!
If I haven't told you all lately...I think about you lots and Love you...this entry will self destruct.
