01/22/2007: "Where does the time go?"

music: Steady hum of electronics and growl of my stomach
mood: maybe, what's it to you.

Time has flown and I have racognized that I am not the only one who has slacked in their blogging as of late. SO much going on, I'm not sure where to start. Quick and Painless soundbites for the faithful.

Slices:I mentioned I was cast in a show at the Pear....well...this week I've been "promoted", I wasn't expecting it, but after the director was cast in a show she couldn't turn down, I am now directing 4 of the pieces. Up for debate is still if I will be acting in one of them, which I'm banking along with the ticketing and housemanager duties, will be pushing it. So, no Acting for me this spring.

Golden Globes: Warren Beaty, don't speak. Really, just look cute, or lay off the champagne a bit. Seriously, embarrasing. Cameron Diaz, you look like a crazy lady, what happened, no really your makeup looked like it was applied by your ass. You are a beautiful girl, don't let a breakup force you out to prove anything if you are not ready. British is the New Australia. No more Nicole Kiddman, Hugh Jackmann, Russell Crowe and the likes, apparently this was the year of the Brit. Funny how life immitates art isn't it? Awards went t Emily Blunt, Helen Mirrne, Sacha Baron Cohen, hugh Laurie, Bill Nighy and to The Queen, and a variety of Britishy things. Rule number one though, do not clap for yourself people, when they announce the nominees, and the camera pans to you, don't, clap. Winners for dresses Susannah would like to wear, Drew Barrymore, J-Lo, Emily Blung and Selma Hayek. The new "cause of Hollywood" is Autism. Did you see the little blue puzzle piece lapel pins. Forget AIDS, now Autism is a fashion statement.

Movies: My GOD have I seen a lot of crap films lately.
Over the Hedge: SNORE
The WILD: So you wanted to be Madagascar did you. Too late. Bu-bye.
Mad Hot Ballroom: the WORST things about America, they MISSED the point completely, it's not all about winning, who wants to see kids cry.
Dog Park: Wow. Suck. At least there were a few cute dogs in the film.
Annapolis: Take the worst parts of Top Gun, Million Dollar Baby and GI Jane...and you have a movie better than Annapolis. Sorry James.
The New World: Q'Orianka Kilcher is lovely, and you know how I endure immense crap from Colin Farrell, but I'm sorry. What? Off the Crack Mr. Director. How about a New Screenplay? Maybe? Ya think?
Miami Vice: Except for mention of La Bodeguita Del Medio, Kieran's former place of emploment this movie was crap. Except for the font, it had nothing to do with Miami Vice. It was a movie full of "WHAT!?"

Onthe Brighter sides, films WORTH ratings:

Salems Lot. Great Steven king 2005 remake about an author in a town of vampires. Rob Lowe. Rutger Hauer as head Vampire. Good stuff. 3 1/2 RRD's

The Hole: A psychological thriller and a teen flick all in one. Slow moving and predictable but good performances. 3 RRD's

Nowhere in Africa: German film about a family that moves from Germany during WWII to Kenya and the adjustments and relationships with the people. Really very wel done. Not a very HAPPY movie, but I did enjoy the scenery and the performances. 4 RRD's

Red Eye: GREAT. Not wholly unpredicatable but excellent suspense and super performances. 4 1/2 RRD's

The Devil Wears Prada: I was unimpressed with the fashion but I thought Meryl Streep was AWESOME. I'm liking her more and more. Silly movie, but worth it to see how the subtle choices are often the strongest. 3 RRD's but a globe winning performance by Meryl.

FIRE: Saw the Fire Ballet last week in Oakland. Two things stood out in the performance of Romeo And Juliet, even more than the WAY too thin Juliet dancer. First off, there was KISSING in a dance sequence with R & J. I really loved this. I was very moved that they incorporated that in there and didn't JUST to ballet. Flaming swords and Break dancing...need I say more. Well worth the price of the tickets.

LOVE: We get closer and closer. I saw a studio downtown that was lovely and with any luck my dear will be renting it for his extended stay beginning in February sometime. Fingers, ever, crossed.

And much more soon I promise...

I completely agree with everything you said about the Fire Ballet--amazing, even with the way too thin annorexic Juliet Ballet Dancer! razz Great show (as I imagine any show with fire would be...yes I am obviously a pyro still) and thanks for opening my eyes up to the Industrial Arts. PS-Thanks for the tix and it was great seeing you twice in almost as many months, a new record I think! And on an unrelated note, after listening to a continous stream of fire engines go by for the last 15 mins--I just looked outside and saw a building on fire collapse! crazy

Best of luck to you and Hamish, I am confident it will all work out for the both of you...it's long overdue for you!
