09/12/2006: "Rights, Raves, and Reviews"

music: Vienna Teng
mood: Could I be more excited?

Bill of (W)rights opened and we had small but very decent audiences, with only one couple walking out this weekend. Highlights included a standing ovation from the fundraiser audience (it was not the alcohol dammit) drinks at Jake's Pizza on Friday with the Cast where I made the best joke ever (wait for it) and a great debat/discussion at the talkback session on sunday. Come see the show, if nothing else it's different.

Best Joke Ever: Looking at Phil's discusting coagulated cheese fondue. "It looks more like Cheese fondon't!" Oh. Yeah. Best Joke Ever.

In other validation, Artsopolis is being honored at a lunchon on Thursday by the Silicon Valley Arts Coalition for our service to the arts community. Free lunch and a certificate for the wall...and Creme Brulee for desert...oh. yeah. Best award EVER!

Reviews: Not a huge amount of movie viewing time since last I blogged, but a few of note. Changing Lanes. Ben Affleck is getting a bunch of press for his performance in Hollywood land. I've never had a problem with his acting, just his choice of movies at times. Changing lanes was one of those movies where you are going "oh god no" the whole way through. Things could have been so different it x or y had happened. Yes, I know this is the point, and clearly for me, on the day I watched it, effective. I thought Sam the Man was great, one of his best roles. the last 20 minutes was a bit off course, but certainly a movie to make you think. A solid 3 3/4 RRD's.

The Fog, Should have been called "The snore" I'm sorry when the historical background that your entire movie is based on is too convoluted and boring to care, it makes the scary part, pretty uninteresting. It didn't suck, but I would have rather watched a Perfect Storm or Cider House Rules if I wanted to be reminded of a East Coast Fishing town. Funny how it takes place in a NORTHERN CALIFORNIA "fishing town". AND funny how it is filmed in British Columbia. I kind of hate that. Like people don't travel enough or see enough movies to know where things are filmed. Why can't the movie just take place in Canada? Is that helping us to lose the war? Seriously.

Rockstar closes this week, soon it will be all over. I will be free from yet another diappointment. Storm, my favorite was elminiated, but they all pretty much agreed they would be her backup band any day of the week. She just can't front theirs. How messed up is that?

I picked up the Entertainment Weekly TV Fall Preview. I might be screwed in terms of the number of shows I actually want to watch this season. What would we do without DVR? Most looking forward to four old faithfuls returning ER, How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, and Medium, and three new shows, Studio 60, Rock 30, and Heros.

Favorite songs these days: Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars, Snakes on a Plane by Cobra Starship, and The raconteurs - Steady as She Goes.

And there you have it...I'm enjoying my evenings off with no rehearsal, somehow my copious amounts of spare time still isn't getting my room clean....or my car...

And the countdown continues...8 Days...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm smile rolls eyes

Congrats on BOW!

I watched "Thief" inspired by your Tangerine Dream comment in a recent blog. The music was great, I thought the rest of the movie was pretty average.

8 days? Not sure how your counter works, but it was 26 days 15 days ago... Still, I know maths was never your strong suit! razz

Not that I watch Rock Star, but I saw that Storm girl on Ellen and she sang a Queen song which is the ULTIMATE no-no for me, especially since she couldn't pull it off in the slightest (which is typical and why it's a no-no!) No where near as talented as Marty Casey . . .

Glad you are all keeping up with the Math. Plans were changed, so the countdown has been altered to reflect that change. big grin I'll have you know that I am quite good at math. I was a supermathlete in 7th grade and was deemed "gifted" in 4th grade. 1 bad Algebra teacher in 9th grade ruined it all. He however was fired the following year. But alas, too late.
