08/10/2004: "Corn"

music: Harry Potter
mood: calm and inquisitive

So a few weeks back I planted some corn, pumpkins and sunflower seeds that we happened to have on hand. I was amazed at how fast they all sprouted and grew. I didn't take a lot of care in where I planted as it was an experiment and I didn't think it would really work...just cleaning up and getting rid of things in a drawer. Some one had told me that you need to plant corn close together and I thought that's funny, they do better in groups becuase they are social. And that was a little scary because I started to think if plants get lonely maybe we should have the animal rights people go after the corn people and make sure that no corn stands alone. I of course did research and discovered that I am a dofus. The need to be in groups to pollenate and grow ears. What? ears. So bug duh of the week. It was nice though thinking that plants enjoyed the company of others like me. With any luck they will have some pumpkin and sunflower friends soon....
