Vale James Brown
Brother James has left the building
We all saw it coming but - no, not yet...
I first discovered Brother J
with a record by His Good Self
& the Famous Flames -
a crappy mono album
but with all The Good Stuff.
I have ripped off *many* of his tricks
including fining members of the choir when they don't perform
as did Brother Elvis
I am in good company.
I only saw JB once
'twas among The Heathen in Hiroshima.
I went down to Studio Duck
to see my guys
& they were all talking 'bout getting tickets.
Of course I jumped in!
We had a block of seats
right in the middle of the hall
and we all jumped up
& started dancing
about the time the intro music started
ROCK!
(or should I say FUNK!?)
We exhausted ourselves
then waited outside
to see The Man
He, unfortunately,
didn't appear
but the rest of the tour did -
Every time someone came out
the crowd erupted in applause -
I bet the cape-carriers felt good!
***
After that
we all took off to a bar.
One of our crew, Makoto, the trombone player,
bore a remarkable resemblance to JB hisself
& we spent the rest of the night
singing & dancing,
doing the "I feel good!"
and dropping to our knees to take the cape.
At the bar there was a talking JB doll -
you know, pull the string & he sings or says something -
I think we learned all the phrases
& it was hilarious listening to The Heathen try to copy them!
Ah,
Blessings, JB,
you are well remembered.
