 Imaginary Kisses

It has been AGES
since I watched Rage
and enjoied it.

Tonight
it is FANTASTIC!
I think it has something to do with
Splendour in the Grass this weekend
& this is a special selection.

Nonetheless,
it is FANTASTIC!!!
I have not held as much Hope for music
in YEARS!

It is a message.

---

I went to bed last night with the Modern Giants album Satellite Nights
and a glass of cab sav.

There is a story below.

 In Good Hands

18-6-5

WE ARE ON!

a LONG day; fruitful, enjoiable, thanks to T.

I AM IN GOOD HANDS!

I am now on a plane - I can't possibly ruin anything from here!

Let's see how QANTAS goes tonight...

One Point! One Big Huge Point!
for playing Art of Fighting preflight - wow!

But then, do you wanna hear Ollie moan & moan
before you've only got a quarter tank of fuel left
somewhere over the Pacific? Hmmm...

OH FUCKING TAKE OFF!
I have waited for this for AGES now!

TAKE OFF!
& it's probably not Ollie & the chewing gum has gone old
& I'm in the second worst seat of the entire fucking plane!

And I think to myself -
what would Hank do?

We close our eyes and give it some thought...

This is a long one Iidren; more below, word.doc here

 Technodelic

27-6-5

After a terrible sleepless night
on the floor
I was knackered!

As the house, the apartment block, the entire neighbourhood gradually awoke

I noticed
with the crystalline clarity
that only sleeplessness can bring;
with that precision

THAT EVERY FUCKING CLOCK/DEVICE/CAR/THING

BEEPS!!!

This is Japan.

 Small Things Part IV*

AAARRGGHHH!

I'm back in PonyTown
and not enjoying it.

Not the beautiful blue sky day
not the wattle in bloom
not the joi of being back in The Rectory
not the company of Dr C
not the joi of beginning Good Works already
not the quiet wandering about this village

but there is a light:

Two and a Half Men on TV.

* More Small Things can be found here.

 Long Live the Queen!

Ah, Parishioners, we are unwell...

We have been diagnosed with a "severe medical illness"
but the best minds in Ponytown can't figure out what it is...

I fucking hate this place

and The Gods fucking hate me -
I must have done something wrong on my Mish -
or left something undone...

Anyway, one of the fuckers made me ill,
another pushed me over in the bathroom
and, today, one of the fuckers broke my fridge - again!

But even with all this
and the bombs in London
and the continuing wars in Iraq & Afghanistan
and the general filthiness of life

there is some light:

Yesterday,
a special occasion was held
in order to induct a number of deserving Artists
into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

This was severely under-reported
(or, perhaps, I slept all day)
but on ABC news tonight some guy was explaining why these guys were inducted:
"Hunters and Collectors for [stumbles here - tries to think of a reason -] longevity..?
and Renee Geyer for just being really really good
!"

THAT'S MY QUEEN!

Incidentally, her latest album Tonight
was featured during the flight back to Oz last week;
put me in such a good mood!

Sometimes I don't mind this place at all!

PS: In a triumph of corporate whoring,
"TV viewers can see this great event exclusively on subscription television. FOXTEL and AUSTAR Digital subscribers will be able to see this special telecast on VH1, Sunday, July 17 at 9.00pm.

Other FOXTEL, AUSTAR, OPTUS subscribers can see it on FOX8, which will provide an encore screening on the ARIA ICONS: HALL OF FAME on Saturday, July 23 at 8.30pm.
"

PPS: It's nice to see Percy Grainger and Sherbet being inducted at the same time!
And Dame Nellie Melba and Ross Wilson!
And Cold Chisel and Peter Allen!
Et cetera...

And WHO is Horrie Dargie?

Australia is funny...

PPPS: Yesterday was Bastille Day - do we need any reminding
Why We Celebrate Bastille Day in Oz?

 Ministering to the Heathen

Beloved Parishioners,
apologies for the scarcity of epistles
but I have been Ministering to the Heathen.

I FUCKING LOVE IT HERE!!!

It is eight o'clock in the evening
it is raining into the tambou (rice field) outside the window
it is stinking hot & humid
but I have an electric fan and jazz and beer
and I am in a Very Fine Mood Indeed!

This afternoon I went in to Sharp to save some souls
and had a guided tour through their museum.

Waal, fuck me!

The guy started out in 1915 by inventing a revolutionary belt buckle
which allowed one to adjust one's belt to any degree of obesity or otherwise,
then moved into making those pencils with leads in 1921.
They were called Hayakawa's Eversharp Pencil - hence the name of the company -
and, to this day, those things are called shaapen.
From there into radio - crystal sets - whence he reverse-engineered some foreign jobs
& eventually started cranking out his own.

Lost his wife & children in The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923
& moved all his factory guys to Osaka to make a fresh start. There is a most excellent history here, with pictures of all the stuff in the museum.

I saw his personal collection of shaapen,
I saw Japan's first radio, portable radio, Bakelite™ radio, b&w TV, colour TV, transistor radio, solar powered radio, microwave oven, photocopier, calculator (HUGE thing with push-buttons), talking calculator, PC, LCD calculator, solar powered calculator, combination abacus & electronic calculator, VCR (top-loading, of course), photocopier et cetera, et cetera - the list is long!

I think Sharp is most famous for it's LCD work & they have 6th generation sheets of "mother glass" LCDs which are 2 x 1.5 m and are moving straight into 8th generation - which must be huge! Sharp are also big into solar power & have devices with 18 & 28% efficiency. So WHY aren't we solar powered yet?

The thing that struck me was how early all this technology was around.

I think the most impressive thing for me was the hi-res medical imaging/digital archiving camera & screen - unbelievable resolution! They had a picture of Venus Arising from the Waves & I've seen it but never up so close & never in so much detail! And they had pictures of some cathedral I've probably prayed in but cant quite recall that were so unbelievably REAL! Its times like these you really have to stop & think "but what about my own eyes- aren't they better?"

Oh, the 500 x 500 x 100 block of crystalline silicon was fucking impressive - as was the shiny shiny rod that wafers are cut from - and I was allowed to put my filthy hands all over them for a probably inappropriate time and press my cheek against the block - and I loved it! Yes, THAT'S my favourite thing!

The final stop on the tour was meant to show off their one bit amplifier & home theatre set-up. The girl played me some sound effects & asked me which movie I'd like to see. I chose Moulin Rouge because

1) I've never seen it & what better time than now? and
2) I wanna hate that fucking bitch in the highest fidelity possible! It was the scene where she is on the roof miming & annoying that guy. I couldn't resist - after I'd had enough it reached the part where she reckons she wants to fly or something. I actually said "Jump!" & the girl laughed - but Parishioners know I really meant "Jump you fucking bitch and DIE!!!"

I'm impressed!

Did I mention I love it here?
