The Pony - Part the Last

Took off early from work this afternoon
to go to the RTA office
& pay the rego for The Pony.

Of course,
in order to take off early,
I went in at 6
[waal… early…]

At the RTA office I encountered
a fat rude bitch
did my best to insult her
but, Praise Jesu,
it took less than 15 minutes!

The costing was:

Pink Slip $28
Green Slip $516
GST $51
Registration Fee $46
Motor Vehicle Tax $150
Panel beating $325

TOTAL $1116

My Time - apparently worthless
Realising you have a friend - priceless!

Thence to the Post Office
where I despatch an aid package,
say hi to my guy
then home
to work & work
until the news;

then I can relax.

The Pony - Part the Third

Thursday turns out to be a hellday:
performing Good Deeds all day
then attending a Very Important Meeting that afternoon.

The meeting drags on & on
but its important.
Someone calls me outta the room
& T's there going:

C'mon, let's go! Is the car ready?

Dunno, I haven't called; I've been flat out all day. You call 'em!

I apologise, tell him I wont be long - I'll leave the meeting if I have to -
& arrange to meet him in my office - The Humpty.

Ten minutes later I'm there & we take off to pick up The Pony!

The job is done, The Pony looks fine, the rust is gone.
T & I split - he's gotta do some shopping -
so, once again, celebratory ales are postponed.

I take The Pony back to the service station to get the Pink Slip,
perpared to leave it overnight, catch the bus to work & pick it up the next day
but the guy [who must by now appreciate me as a considerable source of income]
just clears it then & there
& we're on our way!

I'm overjoyed - only one more step to go!
So I celebrate

by buying

4 packets of potato & leek soup [$1, usually $1.75]
a garden hose [$5, usually $8, includes a variety of fittings]
& a $7 bottle of port [I had only $8.15 in the collection plate]

'Tis a simple life…

The Pony - Part the Second

Lying on my bed of nails
listening to the wireless
I heard, on the 6 am news,
that there was gwan be a bus strike that morning!
Jesu, it’s a Good Thing I don’t sleep!

Now, on Tuesday night I had refused a lift the next morning from T
because he was starting at 6 am.
So I'm meditating furiously as to how to get to work.
I could ring T, or I could ring D -
after three years of faithful service to the parish
these are the only two people I know who might do me this favour!

Fuck Me!

I have just counted all of my blessings!

So I endure the nails for a few more hours
& call T around 9.
Yea, he's busy but he'll be finished soon & will come get me.

I give thanks & praise to The Lord
and feel alright.

Pony's not ready Wednesday afternoon so I arrange a lift home with T.
This time, however, it's my turn to help out -
his flasher can is gone so I scrounge up the tools & we pull his car apart,
get the blinkers working
then put the car back together again.

Of course, the flasher can immediately carks it.
SO; no indicators, he can't risk being picked up by Plod
so we forego our occasional Wednesday night payday celebrations
and confirm a lift for 6 am Thursday morning.

Now I don’t mind this becuz
1) its penance for my stupidity and
2) I gots stuff to do starting early on Thursday

 Superstylin'!

Saturday 3-7-4

5:20 pm
& I've finally sat down to relax.
I have JB's mixtape on the deck, VB in hand
& it's time to tell of my day.

But let us begin with Friday.

About 7 pm I looked up from my work
& saw this big fat mottled grey/white moon
in a crystal clear blue/black sky
and burst out in a grin!

I went outside
and breathed
the scented bush air
and felt alive again!

The week had ended well.

This morning
after a fantastic Jimmy Stewart murder-mystery dream
I'm outta bed at 8:30
easing into the morning.

No pills, no hangover;
I got my health back!

[just who is the Goddess of the Weather?]

I watched Rage, caught up on a heap of reading
[totally forgot about The Comfort Zone & The Music Show]
then it was time to go outside.
I took my amp down to the Crazy Guy and,
on the way to return my library book,

I saw these two chunky young okkers
in boots, shorts & singlets
manhandling a fridge
down the street
on a trolley.
It was the filmclip from Groove Armada's Superstylin'!
I looked around for someone to share this with
but, alas,
I couldn’t find a soul.

Sometimes I love my neighbourhood!

I took back my library book,
looked 'round for something else
and found Quicksilver - I am looking forward to this!
I bought a paper, chocolate, liver pills and milk,
came home
& wrote for about three hours straight.

Finished, I tuned & packed up my black guitar
& went back to see if Crazy Guy had fixed my amp -
no, but we talked for a while about electronics,
reminding me of how little I know.

Home again
to proof & publish my work,
fuck around with the site
[no, still can't get it working properly, but bear with me!]
do some chores
& before you know it
it's after five -

YAY - I kept the Five O'clock Rule!

Thanks again, JB, for the tape
I'm relaxed.

Bless Y'all

The Pony - Part the First

Drama visits the parish every July
when The Pony must be registered.

There is a Pink Slip [roadworthy test]
a Green Slip [compulsory third party insurance]
& registration.

Normally, these are mere formalities
and simply cost a lot of money
and involve a lot of buggerising around.

This time, however,
there were complications

Paid the insurance over the phone on Friday
put The Pony in to the service station to get the Pink Slip on Sunday night
& took Monday off work
hoping to pick up The Pony later that day
& walk down to the RTA office to pay the rego;
Painless!

Went back early Monday afternoon
so as not to miss the early closing RTA office
but the guy had knocked back the Pink Slip
because The Pony had a bit of rust
in places I thought quite unimportant.

I was pissed off, hungover & not thinking clearly at all.

I drove straight out to the industrial area
and put The Pony in to the panelbeaters
who fixed him Easter last year
when those fuckers ripped out my door lock & stole my brand new stereo.

I walked home from the industrial area - it’s a bit of a hike
but has a bottle shop & a pub about half way home.

I sulked & slumbered the rest of the day.

* * *

Got the bus to The Church on Tuesday morning
& got a lift home with T

Now, T used to be a panelbeater
until he downed tools & came to work at The Church.
I relate my story
& he's just laughin' at me!

Ya stupid bastard - why didn’t ya ring me?
I coulda fixed it no worries!

And he coulda.

Of course, I got no excuse
except that I was pissed off, hungover & not thinking clearly at all.

He laughs & laughs & I promise to do better next time.
We repair to The Rectory for several ales
since we are both broke & won't be paid until 7 pm Wednesday night.
He laughs & laughs
we have a few more ales
& I promise to do better next time.

And I will.
