 Forgiveness

After a long, long day of Good Works
We arrive back at The Rectory
And continue working.

We have a Very Important Meeting
On Tuesday
& need to be prepared.

We also have a thesis to correct
a paper to write (yay!)
and a barbie on Sunday
(after Church, of course);
there aren't enough hours in the day…

SO we're trying to get all this important work done
When The Replacements comes on tv.

Oh, how can we work during this?
It is a magnificent movie!

Chokka with stereotypes:
strippers as cheerleaders
(they distract the opposing team & the coach complains:
"That one girl slapped the other girl on the ass!")
a great soundtrack (I Will Survive - with a dance routine in jail)
Gene Hackman

And Keanu!

ah, we forgive you for those stupid bus movies

PS green tea soda water is a great invention!
PPS we fixed the favicon/bookmarklet thang -
can you see it in the address bar & in the favourites/bookmarks? If still not, see below for more instructions.

Tricks of the Trade again

December 06, 2004
Bellboy

When you let guests into their rooms, ask to use their phone, pretend to dial the front desk, and say, "I'm in room 204 with Mr. and Mrs. X, and I just want to make sure that the problems we've had with the loud guests in room 304 have been resolved. Because otherwise I'm going to move these people to 233. They checked out today? Excellent, thank you." Hang up, smile modestly, and get ready for a large tip.

 Left-Wing Ratbags

The legendary Campbell McComas recently passed away.

His mate Phil Adams noted this yesterday on Late Night Live
and made much of his ability to impersonate people -
or, rather, to pose as people;
a Nobel laureate giving a public lecture, for example.

Tonight he told his favourite Campbell McComas story
which went something like this:

I was compering a benefit concert for the Italian Earthquake back in 1980
and it was overburdened with long, boring speeches.

People don’t like speeches
so I announced

"Next, politician XYZ
was going to get up & give a speech
but he's down the road at the Logies,

so Campbell McComas is going to get up & impersonate him."

The polly didn’t hear any of this
and went out & gave his speech.

He was
blown away
by the whistling & cheering from the audience!

No-one told him -

it took him
weeks to find out…

Ah, those left-wing ratbags...!

 Bland

This is just not fair - we like this song!

From Tricks of the Trade

Party Band
If your audience is reluctant to dance and you want to get them moving, play "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison. Regardless of the age or size of the crowd or their occupations, that song is more likely to pack the dance floor than any other. In fact, "Brown Eyed Girl" works as an effective opener for the evening, at the beginning of any set, whenever the energy is lagging, as your last song, or even as an encore.

Can we start a list of crappy songs you just know the band'll play?

PS We got the favicon thang up & running again - replace your bookmarks and see! (oh yea, let us know if it doesn't work - we can fix it!)

 Omega Man

Beloved Parishioners,
we are depressed.

After a blissful three weeks of Holy-days
we are back in Church.

It was never going to be easy
BUT
it appears that
all of our Good Works
have gone unappreciated;

it is as if we were never there…

& there'll be more and MORE of this SHIT

tomorrow,
next week,
for the rest of the year…

we are depressed.

However, there is Hope -
we heard on the Radiola that
the omega-3 fatty acids contained in fish oils (derived from phytoplankton)
videlecit DHA & EPA
are proven to counter depression
(as is exercise)

Thus we sallied forth
to the non-discount supermarket
and bought the largest bottle they had.

We ended up walking around the village for an hour
& going to three different stores.

This, in itself, may have helped
because we don't feel nearly as FUCKING PISSED OFF
as we did in the last few days…

We would be most grateful
for your prayers…

I'm sure this is of interest to all Parishioners:

at The Discount Supermarket

a 910 gramme jar [& it looks like a whiskey sippin' jar!]

of Vegemite

costs only AUD$10.69!

AND only 5 grammes of this product contains 25% of your Recommended Daily Intake
of niacin and riboflavin
and 50% of your Recommended Daily Intake
of thiamine and folate!

Vitamins are expensive!

***
Note that there is no GST on this product - in spite of the fact that it's a processed food!

Chocolate (on special - 250 grammes for AUD$2.88) has GST
CCs (on special - 230 grammes for AUD$1.59) has GST

Curiously, SOAP - which you can't eat - also has GST!

PS mobile phone recharge now available at the Service Desk

The Best Joke of The Universe

Somewhat lonesome
we went down the pub this evening

We were surprised and overjoied
to see some people we knew
and to meet others.

AND we heard The Best Joke of The Universe!

Did you hear about the dislexic pimp?

How & Why I Came to Die

6-1-5

We were most fascinated by that song that goes: "…how & why I came to die…"
mainly because we thought it was Ian McCulloch's return to fame;

turns out it wasn't…

We are reading Paul Theroux's My Secret History;
(perhaps the natural sequitur to Peter Carey's My Life as a Fake)

In Chapter Eight he writes:

This suffering was not wholly due to the fact that Father Furty was dead (but how had he died? and when exactly?- I was troubled by the vagueness of it all, and ashamed because I was too young to be told).

Have The Chemical Brothers read this?
Has Wayne Coyne?

Has Ian McCulloch?

 Blessings 30-12-4

Beloved Parishioners,

it is appropriate in this season

to take a little time

to consider our Blessings.

We are currently on holiday and thank The Lord for, in no particular order, these:

* we have discovered a radio station that plays jazz in the morning (2SER 107.30 MHz)

* we are regularly enjoying a couple of leisurely coffees and a relaxing read in the mornings. We haven't had cardammon coffee for some time and it somewhat more delightful than we remember

* having slept soundly, it a great joi to rise sometime after 10 without a hangover

* we finished off Peter Carey's My Life as a Fake, which is very good indeed, and Carl Hiassen's Skinny Dip, which is as fine as any of his other works and, predictably, dedicated to the memory of Warren Zevon

* we have just embarked upon the second volume of Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle The Confusion and are very excited indeed!

* we have discovered the most wonderful incense - Satya Sai Baba's Nag Champa (Agarbatti) - 15 grammes of Export Quality material for the retail price of only $1.95. This gear is so pungent that this morn I could readily detect the frangrance of the stick I lit yesterday evening! 'Twould be perfect for the censer were it not so brazenly heathen. Still, we might give it a swing (pun intended) and see if it gets past the Bishop…

* after a fumbling and awkward start and no little humiliation (mostly self-inflicted - we should've known better…) we have returned to the video store to catch up on popular culture. We recently viewed Barbershop (Ice T blaxploitation pic, good fun), Ali G in da House (would've been better if 'tweren't so juvenile and had more Borat!) and the fantastic Kevin Smith movie Dogma (more in a separate epistle). One dollar for a weekly rental - stay tuned for more Kulcha Vulcha-ing!

* VB on sale at the discount liquor store - $30 for a block of 30 cans - cheaper than, waal, many things!

* finally found time to familiarise ourselves with our new electronic Japanese dictionary - it is called JlookUp and it is very good indeed!

We are determined to use these holidays for Good

so many more interesting thangs are sure to ensue!

Bless y'all!
