08/22/2006: "Vodkast!"
Spooks is on, Parishioners,
the one where he dumps that psycho bitch
then does that CIA chick.
But I can't concentrate on that -
I've just had A Great Idea!
Vodkasts!
It's like a video conference
but on Teh Luvverly Interweb
It's like sitting round in the lounge room
but on Teh Luvverly Interweb
It's a buncha people - us guys,
jannan
& shootan the shit
but on Teh Luvverly Interweb
I don't much care if it's actually cast -
but can we do it?
+ + +
Think Wayne's Whirl,
& Warhol's Empire!
Can we build it?

'tis an idea I have had ever since the dawn of the internet. In fact, that was one of the reasons I dug out the old "spit in the air and catch it" games. I wanted to do an onl,ine Boomshanka. But, as per usual, we never got our shit together to gather a crowd in one time... And after New Years Eve 2004, my enthusiasm for such organisational ventures was dampened.
Of late, I have started playing "D&D Online", with the old crew - Jeff, Luke and Nick. We "meet" up every Saturday, 6:00am my time, 10:00pm their time. Its _so_ good to be able to hang out with those guys again - no video, but the voice chat works great.
There are plenty of tools one could use to build an online drinking game - and to my knowledge, it hasn't been done yet. It is on my list of things to do, but that list numbers in the C's now, and after a weekend dedicated to reducing the number, I managed to knock off about 10, and add another 5. Hmmm, Boomshanka-Online. It could be big. It could be huge! Lets doooooo itttttttttt [image of Chris running out of the room with his hands in the air. His laptop site there silently watching him. After a few moments, Chris slinks back in and sits down again...]
Its kind of like my video-performance idea. Its cool, and it can be done, but it takes a big investment in time and money. And the end result? Well, it needs an audience. I guess thats the true measure of an artist, one that just gets on and makes art without worrying about whether anyone will see it.
Drinking games as art? Sure, why not! But we'd have to run it out of the Cayman islands or somewhere, otherwise just imagine the lawsuits!

Oh, unfair!
I ran across this today:
The ABC has about 20 entries in the iTunes Australia top 100 and The Chaser vodcast is number one in its category and growing fast.
So I Googled™ "vodkast" - HEAPS of hits!
Nothing is original any more...

Of course, it is always possible to take such things too far!
