01/26/2005: "Left-Wing Ratbags"
The legendary Campbell McComas recently passed away.
His mate Phil Adams noted this yesterday on Late Night Live
and made much of his ability to impersonate people -
or, rather, to pose as people;
a Nobel laureate giving a public lecture, for example.
Tonight he told his favourite Campbell McComas story
which went something like this:
I was compering a benefit concert for the Italian Earthquake back in 1980
and it was overburdened with long, boring speeches.
People don’t like speeches
so I announced
"Next, politician XYZ was going to get up & give a speech
but he's down the road at the Logies,
so Campbell McComas is going to get up & impersonate him."
The polly didn’t hear any of this
and went out & gave his speech.
He was blown away
by the whistling & cheering from the audience!
No-one told him -
it took him weeks to find out…
Ah, those left-wing ratbags...!
