01/13/2005: "How & Why I Came to Die"

We were most fascinated by that song that goes: "…how & why I came to die…"
mainly because we thought it was Ian McCulloch's return to fame;

turns out it wasn't…

We are reading Paul Theroux's My Secret History;
(perhaps the natural sequitur to Peter Carey's My Life as a Fake)

In Chapter Eight he writes:

This suffering was not wholly due to the fact that Father Furty was dead (but how had he died? and when exactly?- I was troubled by the vagueness of it all, and ashamed because I was too young to be told).
