01/12/2005: "Blessings 30-12-4"
Beloved Parishioners,
it is appropriate in this season
to take a little time
to consider our Blessings.
We are currently on holiday and thank The Lord for, in no particular order, these:
* we have discovered a radio station that plays jazz in the morning (2SER 107.30 MHz)
* we are regularly enjoying a couple of leisurely coffees and a relaxing read in the mornings. We haven't had cardammon coffee for some time and it somewhat more delightful than we remember
* having slept soundly, it a great joi to rise sometime after 10 without a hangover
* we finished off Peter Carey's My Life as a Fake, which is very good indeed, and Carl Hiassen's Skinny Dip, which is as fine as any of his other works and, predictably, dedicated to the memory of Warren Zevon
* we have just embarked upon the second volume of Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle The Confusion and are very excited indeed!
* we have discovered the most wonderful incense - Satya Sai Baba's Nag Champa (Agarbatti) - 15 grammes of Export Quality material for the retail price of only $1.95. This gear is so pungent that this morn I could readily detect the frangrance of the stick I lit yesterday evening! 'Twould be perfect for the censer were it not so brazenly heathen. Still, we might give it a swing (pun intended) and see if it gets past the Bishop…
* after a fumbling and awkward start and no little humiliation (mostly self-inflicted - we should've known better…) we have returned to the video store to catch up on popular culture. We recently viewed Barbershop (Ice T blaxploitation pic, good fun), Ali G in da House (would've been better if 'tweren't so juvenile and had more Borat!) and the fantastic Kevin Smith movie Dogma (more in a separate epistle). One dollar for a weekly rental - stay tuned for more Kulcha Vulcha-ing!
* VB on sale at the discount liquor store - $30 for a block of 30 cans - cheaper than, waal, many things!
* finally found time to familiarise ourselves with our new electronic Japanese dictionary - it is called JlookUp and it is very good indeed!
We are determined to use these holidays for Good
so many more interesting thangs are sure to ensue!
Bless y'all!
