02/25/2005: "Diary of an ex-Rockstar, 25-Feb-05"

Well, today is the first day of Rockstar auditions in LA - and I'm not there. I was kind of bummed when I read Kirk's notes about the Seatlle auditions, and that he was in town but just didn't go along the day I was there. My business manager tried to convince me to go down to the LA auditions to try again, but I'm pretty much done with the whole thing. Now I just get to sit back, watch the show when it comes out, and laugh at the people they did pick!

Went along for the third Jam session with my "new band" on Wednesday - and it was very different to what I expected. Eric brought along another vocalist, Christina, who had answered one of their ads. She has a good voice, but I am less than convinced that a "two-vocalist" band will work. Well, to be honest, whether a two-vocalist band will work for me! I don't think I have the hugest ego in the world (at least the artist in me doesn't), and as soon as this sort of thing turns into a competition - well, I'll just shut down and stand back. We're still struggling through tunes that we don't know very well, and she tended to know the songs better, so she jumped right in, and I was relegated to harmonies and backup, aside from a handful of songs. I'd had a shitty day at work, and was really looking forward to relaxing and getting a bit of a vocal blast going - and I must admit I was kind of bummed out afterwards.

I spoke to Eric yesterday, and he was very enthusiast about the whole thing. I was kind of non-comital, but said I'd give it a whirl. I'll see how it pans out next Wednesday, and if I feel the same after another rehearsal - well, then it'll be time to chat to the guys and see where we're going...

So, looks like this'll be the last "Diary of a Rockstar" entry, normal service will be resumed shortly!
