05/19/2004: "Smellories..."
I'm sure you've all heard how powerful "smell memories" (Smellories, as I shall now call them) are, but this was brought home to me this morning. I knew it would be a busy day, so I threw a couple fo pieces of bread and an apple into a tupperware before heading to work. When I opened the tupperware at my desk, I was struck with a very strong smellory - the smell of apple and bread closed inside tupperware taking me straight back to school lunches, and a stream of early memories came flooding back. Milk day. Frozen cordial that would half melt and still be icy cold at lunch time. Custard tarts from the tuckshop - and a dozen more.
I gotta figure out how to get all those memories out of there!

And the soundories too.. I heard a song today that I hadn't heard in a while and it transported me back and forward at the same time. Back to what the song meant to me several years back ( and exact time and place I recall hearing it) and forward to what it means to me now and the memories it creates as I listen again. Double memories almost....
